BREAKDOWN: New Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailer

(This news piece contains facts and opinions)

On June 1st, 2022, we got a better look at the upcoming games: Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. The Pokémon Twitter account (‘@Pokémon’ on Twitter) posted a Three Minute Video that showcased a few new Pokémon, including the Legendary Pokémon. As Well as some new features. Some of which were obvious, some of which were not so obvious.

Let’s start with the new Pokemon, three of which we already know of which were shown again for this trailer. From Left to Right: (Sprigatito, Quaxly, Fuecoco)

First is Pawmi, an Electric Mouse Pokemon, this seems to be this generation's version of Pickachu, much like how Pacharisu was for Gen 4.

The Next new Pokémon is perfectly named; “Lechonk” It is a normal type, so it has the potential to be this generation's “Rodent” line of Pokémon (Like how Bidoof was in Generation 4) The name “LeChonk” might have another meaning, applying the French “Le” meaning “The” then the name of this new Pokémon technically translates to “TheChonk” With “Chonk” being internet slang for a fat cat. I wonder if this was intentional? Doesn't matter as the pig is already taking the internet over.

Next up is “Smoliv” a Grass/Normal-type. It’s an adorable little scared olive, Being only an inch tall. Spain and Italy are some of the biggest importers of Live’s only adding credibility to the idea that this game is set in Spain.

And the biggest for last! We get a reveal of the box legendaries! The first is Koraidon (Red) and Miriadon (Blue) besides the fact that Miriadon looks like a penis…(“https://kotaku.com/pokemon-violet-legendary-miraidon-dick-game-freak-ninte-1849001378”)

They look pretty rad, despite the difference in design, where Koraidon looks like it was designed after a motorcycle, whilst Miraidon looks like a celestial dragon. The difference in design is odd since all box legendries have had some design consistency with the other or within the story or in the name of the game. (Ruby is similar to Groudon for example) so we’ll have to see how these designs relate to the game itself.

As for new features, there seems to be four-player multiplayer. It seems that you will be able to join a player's “world” as if it were a multiplayer free-roam, being able to trade on the fly as opposed to having a stiff trading system to use. (Or lack thereof in Pokémon Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond’s case)

There might also be a return of game-specific factions, as seen within Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire. As there is a shot of what looks like a Scarlet and Violet plague symbol on a pedestal outside what seems to be a castle. Although this could be the same version, just having both symbols on the castle. So it is unclear as of now.

We have two new professors, Professor Turo and Sada. Which are in-fact version exclusive Sada in Scarlet, and Turo in Violet. Thanks to (https://www.polygon.com/23149969/pokemon-scarlet-violet-professor-turo-sada) This is the first time the Professor will be different determined by version. It is unsure whether both Professors will appear in the games regardless of their different roles.

The last new character is this girl with a green streak of hair. Her name is Nemona and she is sporting the new Pawmi. She has the potential to be a rival due to her kinship with Blue - The cocky rival. Although this would mean her signature Pokémon is not one of the main three starters. This would be the first time since Pokémon Yellow, released back in 1998

The wild Pokémon roaming thankfully returns from Sword and Shield. Not only that they seemed to have mixed the roaming Pokémon with the battle style of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. So when you enter battle with a Pokémon. You will do it right where you are standing. No matter the slope or anything like that. Whereas in previous generations you would be transported to some imaginary battlefield that was the same layout each time (Save for the design of the terrain)
